# Start in Latvia

> Company formation in Latvia for foreign founders. We register a Latvian SIA (limited liability company) remotely, with online qualified electronic signing and no notary, provide a legal address in Latvia, and guide the bank account step. **Key facts**

- Standard SIA and small-capital SIA (mazkapitāla SIA) formation: EUR 300 + VAT, the same published fee for both; it includes the base state registration fee.
- Minimum share capital of a standard SIA: EUR 2,800 (Komerclikums Article 185). It is paid in by the owners into the company account and is not part of our fee. A small-capital SIA may have less, on stricter conditions.
- Legal address in Latvia (can be ordered on its own for an existing company, or with a new formation): EUR 200 + VAT per year, minimum one year; 2 years EUR 390, 3 years EUR 570 + VAT (5% off the second year, 10% off the third; three years is the maximum term). Document forwarding is not included; it is a one-off add-on of EUR 300 + VAT under a notarial power of attorney (notary fee paid separately).
- Formation plus one year of legal address: EUR 500 + VAT.
- Each additional person beyond the first (an owner or a board member; someone who is both counts once): EUR 50 + VAT. When an owner is a company, each company in the ownership chain adds EUR 100 + VAT (ownership-chain check).
- Signing is remote with a qualified electronic signature (QES). Standard coverage: EEA countries and Switzerland (31 countries); other countries case by case. An ordinary or "advanced" (AdES) e-signature is not enough.
- The Register of Enterprises: we handle all communication with it, including follow-up questions and postponement decisions. The client gives us the information and signs the applications, explanations and other documents we prepare.
- Speed: we reply in writing and start each step as soon as the one before it is ready. We never promise a fixed total time, because the bank and the Register of Enterprises set their own pace (see /how-it-works).
- For a single-founder company the Register of Enterprises handles the application within one to three business days for the standard state fee (no separate paid one-day option). With more than one founder the standard review period is three business days, and one-business-day review costs three times the base fee and we add the difference at cost (EUR 150 for a standard SIA, EUR 40 for a small-capital SIA).
- Paid by the client directly to the provider, not by us and not in our fee: the qualified electronic signature (Dokobit or a national provider), the notary fee for a power of attorney, bank fees and the share capital.
- Payment: EUR only, by bank transfer against an invoice, in advance; no cards, cash or other currencies. Cancellation: until we tell you in writing that we have started preparing the documents you can cancel and we refund what you paid within 14 days, minus third-party costs already incurred; after that the part of the fee for stages not yet started and any unsubmitted state fee are refunded, and state fees already submitted are not. - The bank stage (temporary account for the share capital) is decided by the bank and is the least predictable step: usually 1 to 2 weeks, up to 3 weeks seen. We advise but cannot open the account.

**Common questions**

- Can a foreigner register a company in Latvia remotely? Yes. In our experience the Register of Enterprises has not required a particular nationality; what it needs is a qualified electronic signature to confirm identity, so no notary or trip is needed.
- How much does it cost? EUR 300 + VAT for the formation (base state fee included); legal address EUR 200 + VAT per year. See https://startinlatvia.com/pricing.
- Do I need to travel to Latvia? Not to form the company. The bank runs its own identity checks separately.
- How long does it take? No fixed total is promised: checks and documents a few working days, the Register's review one to three business days (single founder) or three (several founders, one day for triple fee), the bank stage usually 1 to 2 weeks.
- Existing companies and stalled registrations: we register SIAs owned by other companies (ownership chain worked out for you, EUR 100 + VAT per company in the chain) and can take over registrations that stalled elsewhere; quoted in writing. - Can you open the bank account for me? No. The bank decides; we advise and prepare you.
